I do not usually watch motorcycle racing on TV but this is one race I do keep on when I come across it. These guys have a set on them and I would say the greatest motorcycle race ever. This should be the pinnacle of any bike racers career just to be there and race the track, regardless if they win or lose!

Depends how you look at it. The challenge is incredible and the focus required of riders to complete a race let alone win is enormous. My family have a motorcycling hero who became a family friend who raced there year after year, and he won there. Then he died there! He joined a very very long list.A large number of names have been added to the list since.I'm not sure what I think about TT Week.

That is a very sad point of the race but its something to expect if you do it. This is one of the reasons why its the greatest race in the world. Its tough, its dangerous, but rewarding if you can complete it.

I have no doubts at all about the skill and committment involved, and the satisfaction that completing it could involve. My mixed views will however remain and in that I'm far from alone. It can be seen as 'the greatest race' or it can be seen as 'the greatest waste' and The two probably are not mutually exclusive. What tipped the balance for me as I grew older, and the roll of those lost grows,is that the severity of the consequences of relatively minor riding errors and machine malfunctions, takes the event beyond racing into a form of gambling that has echoes of Russian Roulette.

Russell, I tend to agree with you. I looked up the statistics and several years there were 7 racers that died IN ONE YEAR! I realize that all racing has an element of paying the ultimate price but hey this is a sport for fun, entertainment and enjoyment. It is not war defending your country or yourself. I think I am not a fan because the danger element is too high. Sorry I feel that way but I do.
