| Have a line on one for $1000, have not seen photos yet, and don't know much about them other than they are rare, modeled on a BSA, and look cool. I can't even find any completed listings on ebay for them, so I know they are rare. What the heck is a complete, non-running bike worth? What else should I know?

There are a few around...very few.
RB has one or two...you can pm him for more info on his site.
Malc87 on this site once in a while but hangs out at RB's site, also has one i think...and there is a fellow in Paris Ontario that has one as well.
Great bikes, hard to get parts for but they are out there.
They are based on the brit bike and under stress would cough the bottom ends on the ground.
if its complete but rough 1000 sounds fair for a project.
Nice find

The only one I've ever seen in person was at the Barber Museum. I didn't really know much about them until I bought a W650, which is patterened after the W1/W2 models.

I started working for a Kawasaki dealer in 1975, and we had a few of these bikes ridden locally that came in for service. I shuddered every time I saw one. I never thought a bike could get any less reliable than a BSA A65 (which I owned a few of) until these nightmares came along. And even back then, getting parts wasn't a sure thing. The term "rare" doesn't necessarily equate something with being desirable. Just as often, it means that nobody wanted them even when they were new.

they are becoming popular in the uk and those that are using them dont seem to have had any reliability issues up to now.
most that have them also have z1"s h2"s etc

But I believe the UK got them well after they were dropped in the US, and that means disc brakes and other upgrades. The models imported to the States were very crude pieces, IMHO.

I acquired my W2 from my father. He was the original owner. Originally sold in and still resides in California.
