How much do you guys pay for your Insurance for what kind of bike?
Here in Michigan, we get stung w/ what they call " Catostrophic Claims" It's a addition to your regular Ins, that pays for others medical costs that have gone thru the roof. This addition on our insurance actually costs more than the Insurance for the bike itself..or car in some cases. My actual insurance on my CBX, is less than $100 a year...but the "CC" adds another $100+ on to it.
In addition, this charge is added to each & every one of our toys, & vehicles policies.. |

You pay very little for insurance.
My insurance bill is $2200.00 a year for all three of my bikes, the 71 CL350K-3 Scrambler, the 79 CBX and the 2001 Blackbird. _________________ Ray #1

Cali's ins. rates are pretty high.., I know that ours are right up there. It all depends on age, vehicle, how bad your license is..etc. Our family is from Oregon, & the rates there are quite a bit cheaper than here.. We have mutiple toys, & the "Catistrophic Claims" thing hurts when it's applied to each vehicle. I know...Wah,Wah.. |

Yeah, you are right, the CC hurts as I also have excess toys. I also refurbish bikes and sell them reasonably, to get younger folks into motorcycles. So if I road test (which I do) it costs me and I have to add that on. Since I have been doing this, when first starting I wanted a 30 day temp plate, which of course they have here in Mich, except it"s the same size as a car plate, so I did that once, next time one of the more courteous ladies informed me it was cheaper to buy a full year plate than a temp. DUH!! There is no way around the CC that I can see. Seems to me that if someone whacks you, it is up to there ins. to cover it, I sometimes get tired of the government trying to "help"
So we are stuck, but I'm on your side..........Blue |

Here in SC I have two bikes insured. I have a 2000 Honda VT1100 Tourer with full coverage and a '68 Honda Dream with just liability and together I pay around $148.00 per year . I've been using AIG for a few years now. _________________ Ride 'em , Don't hide 'em ! |

| Thats a great price...especially for a full coverage policy. We here, also have higher "minimums" for liability & damage. I believe a lot of places are 50/100 thousand for those, where ours are 100/300...That makes a big difference in premiums. |

My first year with a 150cc bike was about $800.
First year with the Honda $407, but no theft insurance.
Second year it went up $18.
Next year I'll qualify for vintage insurance. Older than 20, and I've owned it for 3 years. $202.
When it goes to vintage insurance I can get a second, smaller policy for theft.
A ninja 250 would be at least $1000 for me. Insurance is one of the main reasons I wanted a smaller, and older bike. _________________ Ride/Fix/Repeat.

First bike '68 cb350 cost $120 per year, adding the '72 cb175 cost another $80.
This is through Progressive, which was expensive for our cars, but a great price for the bikes. |

| It seems to me that you all have inexpensive insurance when compared to mine. I do have full coverage with State Farm. Have had on everything I've owned since 1970. Presently my 2000 W650 is $253.44 per year and my 2003 V-Strom is $484.20 per year. I live in a rural area 35 miles from the city. Every so often I phone around to other insurance companies to get price quotes. They're all even higher! |

| Seems like we are almost all in the same boat, I know in Mich. here you can find a plate from the year of man. and if 25 years old can be used as a permanent plate. There is also a cheaper ins. for historical vehicles, but it limits use to like parades, shows, etc. routes to and from these events and that's about it. Got to save the old plates here cause sometimes they repeat the sticker color, oops I never said that......Blue |

i just paid $183 for my xj900rk (yamaha seca)...
state farm, state minimums, no medical (covered through work), strictly liability...
what i also dont care for is you have to buy a whole years worth. when i got my first bike (in USAF) in oklahoma, i could insure on a monthly basis. of course i can call and cancel the insurance but its the initial up front cost that pisses me off...
and youre right. the CC is higher than the bikes liability...
state farm is the lowest price i can find for insurance even thought many places say that A) SF is higher nationally and B) that they can save me hundreds. i think progressive was $0.94 cheaper on one quote i got...
oh, well i have to have it so i buy it... |

.........Blue | You must live someplace where everyone voluntarily gets insurance. It's mandatory here, but we still have a bunch of folks driving uninsured.
