Sorry, I forgot to mention something, just realized it when I read the last post. John also said that when he had encountered this problem with the head gasket a majority were on newly assembled engines. He said that the possibility of some foreign matter having entered the head bolt holes had caused it, due to trying to compress the dirt and winding up with an incorrect torque reading, which shows you had reached torque specs, but not really. If it does in fact turn out to be the problem, he suggested a gun cleaning brush and air nozzle to clean out the holes and to also match length on all bolts as he had also found that to be a problem, especially if a person has an ample supply of head bolts to choose from, said he did one where the one bolt was nearly a full 1/8" longer and apparently had "bottomed out". I hope this helps and I also hope it's not the gasket, but something simple. later, Blue

hey guys and possible girls, i have discovered something while doing the soapy water head gasket test. my intakes are cracked. with the bike running and chirping i sprayed soapy water around the head checking for any bubbles; i also inspected it before the water but it was clean and no bubbles so i'm thinking all good. now what i did find is while spraying water everywhere is when i got to the intakes there was a drop in the rpms, so once more for good measure and the same affect. it is a stretch to think this is where the noise is coming from but i'm going to deal with this issue and see what happens.
for those keeping up on my adventures i did set the tensioner per the honda bulletin specs and the chirping continues. please checkout the video and give me your two cents. sendspace.com look for chirpping cl350

This happened to me a long time ago with a Water Buffalo, and I was convinced I'd squeaked a piston. Tore off the top end to inspect, and found nothing wrong. Same squeaking after reassembly, and for some reason, I decided to dribble oil on the carb rubbers at the head. Squeak stopped immediately. There was a very small flaw in the sealing of one of the carb rubbers, and the gasket behind the rubber was acting like a clarinet reed on each intake stroke.

Earl let's hope you hit it, sounds like you are on the right track, Harleys are imfamous for that except they keep running without the noise but run like crap till it finally won't start, because not enough intake vacuum to open the petcock, my test for Harleys that won't go is a shot of something flammable on the intake, course it don't run so it's cold, eh, no fire needed, if it pops I go to the intake rubbers. well anyone have any intake boots for a cb/cl350 ?
i used some ultra black(high temp gasket maker) and coated the boots let it dry and reinstalled. started up great no chirping went for a ride; 5mins in it starts to idle a little faster and the chirp is back. came home park and thought "shit.....out comes the motor" as i cleaned up the tools i thought i'd give the boots a little squirt of WD while running.well the right cylinder sputtered and popped and a puff of smoke shot out between the boot and the cylinder head. the gasket in there is new; i'm thinking the surfaces may not be perfectly flat.
so as i see it i either find some new/used boots or i try some high temp liquid gasket, the stuff i have is good up to 500 degrees and is oil and gas resistant. do you guy think the heads get over 500 degrees?
also i pulled the plugs and they were looking a little on the white side do you guys think this extra air was leaning up my mixture?

I just got my intake boots for CB360 from local honda dealer for about 35.00 each. (outch)
Might try just calling your local honda folks...
If they can't find it I can put you in touch with my local shop who are very good about getting obscure parts from other honda warehouses from the ancient days...
