I have had three tanks done by Empire GP of Montour Falls, NY and all have been great. They use what is called Phenol Novolac Epoxy. Go to http://www.empiregp.com and read about it.

Bob Brown is the guy you want to talk to if you want to call.

I've found a reasonably priced replacement tank, so unless I get bored, I won't need to deal with this afterall. Thanks to everyone.

I have found that less than $20.00 worth of vinegar will clean the rust and mung out of a gas tank.
I have 5 gallons of distilled vinegar in this CB1100F 5.3 gallon tank and it has been there for 11 hours.

Look at the gas cap?

I saw what vinegar can do to a badly rusted GL1100 gas tank. If it could fix the mess I saw in that GL tank, it will work on any tank.
48 hours of soaking in vinegar is recommended but, it may not take that long for your tank.
Then you rinse with water and blow dry with high pressure air.

Ray -

It's not so much rust he's dealing with as it is the set-up POR product in there.
Though my info is entirely anecdotal, POR seems to be nearly impossible to remove once it sets up properly.
Sandblasting seems to be the only way, as chemicals won't touch it.........
