I've been 500 miles from home on a Sunday and couldn't get any motorcycle oil without friction reducers. (the stuff that's supposed to be bad for wet clutches)

I didn't realize. I'll have to look for this special motorcycle 10W-30 oil. Is it made by Motul?

Castrol 20/50 GTX is available everywhere (you can get it at WalMart). It's cheap. It's great all-season 4-stroke motorcycle oil. I've been using it in Japanese motorcycles for forty years. Never had a problem with it. You can pay more if you want to, but you can't do any better.

It's the same old story though isn't it,the difference between what a machine can do if held wide open and what it is taken out to by a rider who has survived the 'wide open' times and learned a few things? When my CB450 was new and I thought I knew what I was doing I thought nothing of holding it at an indicated 100 mph, and me in my open face helmet, nylon windbreaker, jeans and sneakers. Legend in my own lunch-box and lucky to have got through that time.
Nearly forty years on with decent riding gear and bikes with all the current improvements in handling, tyres, brakes and engines, there is absolutely no way I'd ride any of them that close to their maximum performance on a public road.

Not-withstanding the above it is completely true that the tough, seemingly unburstable, nature of the CB/CL350's is what created their legendary reputation.
