Sorry for the bonehead question but in starting to go over this bike which is new to me, I realize that the left side cover doesn't want to clear the exhaust for removal. Don't have a manual yet so I thought I would ask here. Many thanks.

| You have got to be kidding. That sucks. Can I replace the air filter element from the other side by removing the battery box ?

It is easier to pull the exhaust system off than do what you are thinking.
I have to do the same thing on my 71 CL350 and will be doing it tomorrow.

Nevermind (in high pitched sheepish voice) I just went out and looked and unbolting the mufflers doesnt really look like that big of a deal. I mean the filters have been in there for 40 years.
Thanks, Edy

Great loking bike Edy!
I don't have to pull my pipes to get at the air cover, but I like your muffler better. If that's any consulation.

Wow, Ray -
Never thought I'd live to see the day that you respond to 350 questions.
It is indeed a Brave New world !!
Yeah, those pipes/side covers are one of the peculiarities of CL's.
Are we having fun now??

I learn fast and can help on certain subjects, so I do.
It is only 6:52am and I am looking forward to going out to the garage already to rip the exhaust off the bike so I can change out my filters.

That's the same conclusion I reached with my CL175 left side cover. Is anyone's cover slightly melted from the exhaust heat? Any ideas how to protect the new one I bought?
I'm considering just putting on cone-type air filters and leaving the side covers off so I don't have to worry about melting the left cover or replacing the expensive emblem on the right side that will probably just get kicked off again. Has anyone gone this route? If so, I'd love to see some pics.

| Quote: | | It took me 5 minutes | Thats good news. Especially since I have an exhaust replacement job to do on my 125. Actually found a used exhaust in somewhat better shape than what's on it now. It will be for sale after that since I have the 350 now.

| Finally got time to get back to the bike. Pulling the exhaust wasn't very hard. The nuts came right off the studs. Had to wrangle (much jiggling and cajoling) the near side pipe out of the head first and then the far side came. I'm going to start a new thread because I'm on to the carbs now.

Congrats on your success. It was easy huh? I just pulled my exhaust pipes off again yesterday so I could replace my clutch cable.
