That's too bad. I thought that it was a good magazine. Maybe it will come back when things pick up. By the way, was the email from the editor or someone connected with the mag.?

The economy is really shaky, so its understandable.

Remember reading all the difficulty folks here had
even finding the magazine, when it was supposed
to be available? Bad sign #1

$8 PER issue was sign #2.

Repeatedly calling Motorcyclist magazines OWN sales
people and having them say they had "Never" heard of
the magazine, that had their name on the cover?
Sign #3

We had the last issue plus the one that was supposed to be out December 5th, ordered from Anderson Cycle
in Nebraska.

They had carried the magazine and were told 5 copies of the back issues would be sent to them along with the
new December magazine order.

The fellow told us he called 6 times asking where their order was? No return calls so yesterday they told us they
were crediting back our Visa card for the magazines because there would be no further magazines coming.

Confusing. I was just reading a December issue of another "motorcycle magazine" and saw a full page add for Motorcycle Retro magazine. It stated that due to sales and industry support they will be offering bi-monthly subscriptions in 2009 and to check their web site for more details to come.

My wife just picked up the third (and maybe final??) issue yesterday afternoon at my local Borders. Unfortunately, it's to be used as a 'stocking stuffer' so I'm not allowed to look thru it till then! Very Happy

GM, Chrysler, Honda Hoot, Legends of the
Motorcycle Concours, etc, etc .... lots of companies
and events suffering due to the economy.

Too darn hard to find this particular magazine too.

Thankfully, there are many other vintage mags to
chose from that are easily available.

Wouldn't give up on the Big Three until the fat lady sings. A lot of great products will come out of Detroit in the next several years.

Can someone clear up what the last issue of Motorcyclist Retro is. I just stopped by the grocery store tonight (December 26th) and picked up the winter edition featuring the Yamaha RD350 on the cover. Has anyone got "official" reports of these guys not printing in 09'.

Hold on guys and gals...

First, let's kill the misinformation and BS. The magazine has been put on ice by the publisher. It did superbly well, issue one selling nearly 25,000 copies. It was breaking even, and whoever said $8 was the cause of its demise is smoking shitty dope. Also, the folks spoken to "at Primedia" were not the sales folks from our group; they're corporate know-nothings. Everyone in our group knew the ins and outs of Retro from day one.

Man, I hate when people think they know things.

Anyway, the good news is that I'm going to take the Retro concept private under a slightly different name. I'll sell it through a website, and issue one will be available this spring. The size and gloss and content will be exactly the same - dirt and street, from '65 to about '85, and primarily Japanese, though not completely.

If anyone has questions, or thinks they know something about what happened, please email me at mcretro [at] cox [dot] net.

Also, if you'd like to be notified by email when Issue One (or Issue Four! Wink is ready, shoot me a note.

Thanks!

Mitch Boehm

Mitch, Thanks for clearing things up and giving us the official word. I enjoyed the first 2 issues very much and was looking forward to the next edition. Too bad things didn't work out, but I hope to get on your list for your next (first) magazine. Thanks
