International Motorcycle Show in Novi, MI on Jan 4,5 6. All of the motorcycle manufacturers will have displays. Motocross America display will be there. The Vintage Japanese Motorcycle Club will be there with vintage bikes. It is an awesome event.

We went to the Cycle World show, in Seattle, November 30th. Have to say that it had very little, for Vintage bike enthusiats. We have gone the last 2 years, but will pass from now on. Same thing every year, new bikes and custom paint jobs on choppers.

They charge $13 a person just to get in, plus $9 to park. Two other couples went with us and they all agreed, it is a good show if you are interested in buying a new 150 mph crotch rocket, or a Harley look alike. Or maybe if you are into Custom Choppers.

Didn't even see the VJMC booth there. They would have been out of place with all the new bikes and custom parts all over.

Might be something to do if you are completely bored with Winter.

They come here in February and we have
to agree with you Sherry. Not going to waste
our time again. We dropped a hundred
bucks there, last year, just to hear the sales
pitch about all the brand new bikes and Orange
County type Choppers. Big whoop.

I *basically* feel the same way as riderfour and hustler, with a couple caveats/exceptions...

...the VJMC booth here last years was great; it was cram-packed with awesome bikes, and was really the highlight of the show for me. The year before that, it was a smaller display, but still cool.

...since I can't ride my bike (Michigan winter), its still nice to look at them and be around them. There are only like 2 bikes in the ENTIRE place that I would ever think of buying (especially since Triumph never participates), but I can still compare and contrast.

...its a family outing. Its something to do. It costs about the same as a movie, but my daughter gets to sit on little 50cc bikes... and mommy gets to sit on a scooter or two... there are worse ways to kill a couple hours...

...I like talking to many of the vendors... the small-time ones... like the guys that are introducing a new loading ramp for trailers, or a tie-down company... etc... they are are interesting and informative discussions with people in the biz...

Other than all that, yes... it's a CRUISER-FEST, and that is disgusting and offensive to me... but I have a good time anyway, and look forward to it.

Cool

Sherry's right on again. 2thubsup

Most of us have "been there, done that" with the
Cycle World shows. Same thing year after year
and it isn't worth $13 a person and $9 to park.

Very good comments. The VJMC has been asked to only participate in two of the International Motorcycle Shows. And one of them is the Novi, MI one so we will be trying to pull out all the stops! The VJMC has a 10'x 50' booth that will be packed with cool vintage Jap bikes like my Honda CBX, Yamha RD350 and many others. If you go, make sure you come by the VJMC booth and start bull shitting about bikes. I guarantee a good time when you talk to me about vintage jap bikes. I will be there Friday and Sunday. I only got stumped on one bike two years ago but knew something about every other jap machine made. (I am a little weak on the early 60's stuff) I am bringing books, magazines to look through as well.

The Cycle World International Motorcycle Show at the Rock Financial Building in Novi, MI was a great event for the VJMC. We had 16 awesome vintage motorcycles on display representing all (4) brands and the booth was busy all weekend long. We talked vintage bikes constantly. Great stories of H2's wheelieing in front of the local high schools, Suzuki GT550's beating Z-1s from stoplight to stoplight, a picture of a 1969 Honda 750 in a guys wallet for 35 years, etc. This is what it is all about! We will keep this passion going and will try to have more rides and events in the future. Thanks to all who help out with this awesome hobby.

I'm sorry I missed you Steve. I was there Saturday. I visited with Andy and his dad. You really did have a nice display. The 73 z1 moved me as I had one years ago. The water buffalo, the rz yami, your 82 cbx, all very nice. Certainly the best display of bikes in the place(except maybe the MVs and Ducs) But I'm kind of partial to old iron anyway.

I will say this, That place really sucks. I waited on grand river for over 30 min just to get in the driveway to find ONE asshole taking parking money. That combined with the hoard of rude city people and all the hardley leather and skank will prevent me from going to the ghetto again. Oh well, It just reminds me of how fortunate I am to live where I do.

See you one day soon, John

I go every year on Friday night. Its the only way to go (sad to give out my secret). I get there like around 5, vendors are just setting up, it's a cool, laid-back atmosphere. Parking is no problem. This year it looked like more people than last, and the VJMC booth was hoppin'.

That Kawasaki W1SS... holy crap... I mean HOLY CRAP....

I have pics on my phone, but that will have to wait... Wink

Yes, Jim Robbins (Kaw W1) does a great job with his restorations. He can powdercoat for us also. I have his phone number. I thought we had about the best display of bikes considering most new bikes look alike and a bunch of cruiser Harleys and Harley look alikes. Keep in touch guys. I want to put together a vintage ride this summer and may need some help. We need to do this, there are a lot of vintage bikes out there! Michigan VJMC Rep Andy Nichols and his Dad Dallas Nichols are the best! I am fortunate to now call them friends and assist Andy with VJMC duties whenever possible.

I am a new guy here but have been riding for over 30 yrs. Ride almost everything less cruisers.

Steve, we met when I joined the club at the Novi show.

Anyway, I was thinking of trying to create a "get together" here in the New Baltimore/Algonac area sometime this summer. Sort of trying to focus on street 2 strokes with ALL years welcome. The four strokes would be welcome but my primary interest is getting the 2 strokes out; trailer or ride in to meet.

I'll line up a place to get some grub and then we could hit some local twisties (modest) and sights. Could also take the ferry ride over to Harsen's Island for bit more road running.

If there is interest I'll get the ball rolling. I do this most weekends anyway so it's no big deal to have a few more join us.

Steve
