I have purchased many Honda 750 with this problem its almost always the wires that leave points housing and go to wire loom are frayed some where and short out on motor.

Remove handle switch, tape bar where hand switch will mount about 3 wraps will work almost, any tape will do reinstall hand switch and problem should be solved.
