So, what if you just switch back to non-synthetic? Do the seals start functioning again? Or did the synthetic somehow permanently alter the seals?

Did you check to see if you have continuity to ground from the yellow wires? Resistance should be infinite. There should be no connection between the unplugged yellow wires to ground.

Used to run those back in my H1 when it was new. I think they came with the bike from the factory. You don't really need them. Just make sure you have the correct heat range.
